demand priority

demand priority
A technique used in 100VG-AnyLAN to arbitrate access to the network and avoid collisions. Demand priority replaces CSMA/CD, which is used in slower Ethernet networks.
Demand priority can also prioritize specific network traffic such as video and other time-critical data, giving it a higher precedence; if multiple requests are received, the highest priority is always serviced first.
   See also Fast Ethernet.
